Running one-on-ones

A weekly 20 to 30 minute one-on-one with each direct report is the single most useful habit for a new supervisor.

Let them set most of the agenda. Ask what is going well, what is blocking them, and what they need from you. Save your updates for the end.

Keep brief notes so you can follow up next week on what you promised.
