What you'll learn

  • Prepare phased site logistics plans that allocate space, routes, equipment and temporary facilities for each stage of a building project and make the trade-offs explicit.
  • Plan site access, truck routes, gates, unloading, laydown and delivery booking, and identify the street use permits and pedestrian protection the plan requires.
  • Lay out site offices, sanitation, first aid, muster points, waste and recycling areas and site security in ways that support the work and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Select and position a tower crane by checking coverage and capacity against the planned picks, and plan its foundation, zoning, oversail agreements, erection and dismantling.
  • Plan mobile cranes, hoists, loading platforms, concrete pumps and material handling equipment, including ground bearing, buried services and hoist capacity.
  • Classify lifts, prepare and review lift plans and critical lift plans, and apply wind limits and stop conditions on the day.
  • Manage formwork, falsework, reshoring, excavation support and scaffolds through a temporary works register with clear design, inspection and permit responsibilities under the applicable Canadian standards.
  • Estimate temporary power demand and plan temporary water, fire protection during construction, temporary heat, enclosure and fuel storage.
  • Protect the public and neighbours with hoarding, covered ways, falling-object controls, dust, noise and vibration controls, condition surveys, monitoring with trigger levels and neighbour agreements.
  • Sequence the schedule with the climate and apply cold-weather concreting, the maturity method, snow, wind, lightning, heat and wildfire smoke controls.
  • Calculate equipment ownership and operating costs, decide between owning and renting from utilization, and manage equipment productivity, maintenance, operators and electrification.
  • Assemble, price, communicate, measure and update a complete site logistics plan for a building project.
