What you'll learn

  • Explain where scope, schedule and cost planning sit in the July 2026 PMP exam content outline and the PMBOK Guide, eighth edition, and tailor planning depth for predictive, adaptive and hybrid projects
  • Elicit, analyse, prioritize and document requirements, including nonfunctional and transition requirements, and maintain a requirements traceability matrix
  • Write a project scope statement with deliverables, acceptance criteria, exclusions, constraints and assumptions, and distinguish validate scope, control quality and control scope
  • Build a work breakdown structure that satisfies the 100 % rule, with work packages, control accounts, planning packages and a WBS dictionary, and assemble the scope baseline
  • Define activities and milestones, sequence them with the precedence diagramming method using the four relationship types, leads, lags and dependency types, and check network logic
  • Estimate resources, effort and durations with analogous, parametric, bottom-up and three-point techniques, and recognize estimating biases and adaptive sizing methods
  • Perform forward and backward passes to find the critical path, total and free float, near-critical paths and negative float
  • Compress schedules by crashing and fast tracking, resolve resource conflicts with levelling and smoothing, interpret Monte Carlo results and establish a schedule baseline
  • Prepare cost estimates that cover all resources, distinguish cost types and estimate classes, and account for escalation, currency, cost of quality and life-cycle cost
  • Aggregate a budget, distinguish contingency and management reserve, time-phase the cost baseline into an S-curve and reconcile it with funding limits
  • Calculate and interpret earned value measures, choose appropriate EAC formulas, apply the to-complete performance index and earned schedule, and measure progress objectively
  • Integrate scope, schedule, cost and adaptive measures into status decisions and apply a structured method to PMP calculation and situational questions
